ECHS Scholastic Bowl team wins first place in Masonic Tournament

The Edwards County High School's Scholastic Bowl team won the Class 1A Masonic Sectional Tournament Saturday in Albion.

The Lions hosted the seven-team tournament and came away with a 6-0 record with wins over Oblong, South Central, Palestine, Red Hill, Cisne and Wayne City. The win will allow EC to play in the Class 1A Masonic State Tournament on March 7 in Bloomington.

The Lions were paced on the day by 35 toss-up questions answered correctly by junior Jack Krouse and 20 by junior Aaron Brown. Torrie Smith picked up three toss-ups, and Max Short and Zoe Barnes also earned a toss-up a piece. Junior captain Micah Henson rounded out the team.

Oblong finished in second place, followed by South Central in third and Palestine in fourth place. The Lions are coached by Will Swardstrom and improve to 36-21 on the season.
