As part of a tree study that concluded in December, the blended Pre-k classes at Wells Elementary School in Grayville enjoyed a visit from Steve DeStefano.
DeStefano is quite knowledgeable about different varieties of wood and has his own woodworking shop at his home. DeStefano started our day by sharing different varieties of hard and soft woods along with some neat projects he made to share with the students.
Afterwards, the classes walked to his shop where he introduced the children to many different hand and power tools, milled wood and safety equipment. As they studied trees, they used literacy, math, the arts and technology to explore the topic in depth.
They also learned important social studies and scientific concepts through many firsthand investigations.
