Speeders rushing through the intersection of School and North Broadway Streets in West Salem have prompted the village’s board of trustees to turn the intersection into a four-way stop.
Public Safety Committee Chair Susan Giese brought the matter before the rest of the board, noting that she had heard complaints from residents near the intersecting roadways.
“I go through there every afternoon on my bus, and there are people that speed through there,” she explained. “(Police Chief) Larry (Reid) has tried to catch them, but if he’s sitting there they’re not going to be speeding.
“But there are several families with children and grandchildren in that area from School Street to Lancaster Blacktop.”
Giese was also clear on what it would take to get those speeding through the residential area to slow down.
“The easiest way to slow them down is to put a stop sign there.”
