The City of Albion may be on the verge of joining the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund.

The Albion City Council met in special session Monday night, with IMRF representative Christine Fine also present to explain the program to the aldermen. The program is independent from the state of Illinois, and has 3,000 units of local government enrolled in the plan.

Taking part in the program would lead to a tax levy increase of more than five percent for city residents in order for the city to meet its obligations, which led to discussion about hosting a public hearing to see if residents were interested in the commitment.
