Bond has been set at $1 million for a Crossville man accused of setting his own home on fire and shoving his mother into the flames.

Clayton Andrew “Andy” Swanner, 35 was formally charged Tuesday, November 12 with six felonies including – attempted murder, a class-X felony, aggravated arson with a person present, a class-X felony, residential arson, a class-1 felony, aggravated domestic battery, a class-2 felony and domestic battery with two prior convictions, a class-4 felony.

The victim, Cathy Brandenstein, 61 of Crossville remains in critical condition at the University of Kentucky Burns Center in Louisville, Ky. She sustained burns to much of her body, authorities said.

The charges stem from an incident early Thursday evening, Nov. 7 at the family's home at 1109 Superior Avenue in Crossville.  White County 911 dispatchers received a call from a neighbor stating that a woman had shown up at his house asking for help. The neighbor told police that the woman had visible burns on much of her body and advised h im that her son had set fire to the house and had shoved her into the flames.
