Gabriel Goolsby, 33 of Grayville has entered a negotiated guilty plea in connection with his arrest last summer for production of child pornography.
In White County Circuit Court last week, Goolsby entered a guilty plea to a Class-X felony charge of production of child pornography depicting victims under the age of 13. Sentencing has been set for March 22. As part plea negotiations, Goolsby entered an open guilty plea to one of the five Class-X felony charges that had been filed in the case. In return for the guilty plea, White County State's Attorney Denton Aud dismissed the remaining four charges. Goolsby faces a sentence between six and 30 years that will be served at 50 percent.
Another element of the deal is that Goolsby must serve between three years and natural life of mandatory supervised release in addition to registering as a sex offender.
Charges against Goolsby were filed June 30 of last year following an investigation by agents with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. He was taken into custody July 6 at his 214 Third Street home in Grayville and has been held in the White County jail at Carmi under $50,000 bond since his arrest.
White County Resident Judge T. Scott Webb has ordered a pre-sentence report and a sex offender evaluation ahead of the March 22 sentencing. Goolsby's Feb. 16 trial date was vacated after the negotiated guilty plea was reached. Goolsby was represented by Patrick Costa of Mount Vernon, Ill.
