Ronald “Dean” Mason, 84, of Effingham, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 13 at his home surrounded by his family.
Ronald Dean was born on Oct. 12, 1936, in Albion, the son of Loren and Margaret (Virgin) Mason. He married Charlotte Walker on June 21, 1957 at the Albion Methodist Church.
Dean retired from Amoco Standard as a territory manager. He enjoyed country music, vegetable gardening, and watching sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals, the Illini and local sports. He would talk to anyone about sports that would listen to him. He most of all enjoyed watching his grandson, Macaulay, play sports and never missed a game. Dean also enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Effingham.
Dean is survived by his wife of 63 years, Charlotte Mason of Effingham; children, Doug Mason of Watson, Ill. Nancy Mason and Brad Mason, both of Effingham; grandson, Macaulay (Tara) Mason; great-grandchildren, Koen, Beckett and Blair and sisters, Donna Hocking and Myrna Mason, both of Albion.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Marlyn, Jim and Bob.
Private family funeral services will be held at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Effingham.
