Ronald Wayne “Ron” Lamp, 70, of Carmi

Ronald Wayne “Ron” Lamp, well-known area minister and businessman, age 70, of Carmi, Illinois, died Monday, July 19, 2021, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana, from injuries sustained in a traffic accident.  He was born June 14, 1951, in Fairfield, Illinois, the son of Norman Eugene Lamp and Mary Louise (Paul) Lamp.  He was married to Hyla Jean (Farthing) Lamp on June 8, 1979, and she survives.

Ron began his career farming with his brother and father.  He graduated from St. Louis Christian College and entered into a life of ministry as youth minister at the First Christian Churches in both Harrisburg, Illinois, and later, Carmi. He served a short time as interim minister at First Christian Church in Sturgis, Kentucky.  In 1978, he became the minister of Springerton Christian Church in Springerton, Illinois, and held that position until his death 43 years later. His latest venture was being elected as Carmi Township Trustee.

He had a passion for singing and sang tenor in several gospel quartets, most recently in the Preachers Quartet.  He loved the outdoors and enjoyed croppie fishing and bird hunting, golf, and working in his landscaping business.  In all he did, Ron was a man of humility and his greatest love was serving his God.  His grandchildren gave him great joy.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Louise Armstrong of Carmi; wife Hyla Lamp of Carmi; daughter Lindsay (Mitchell) Schoenheit of Carmi; brother Richard “Rick” (Roxie) Lamp of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; sister Diana Lamp of Evansville, Indiana; grandchildren Carly, Cody, and Charlotte.

He is preceded in death by his father, Norman Lamp; and grandparents Hobart and Pearl Lamp, and Helen Rush.

Visitation is 4-7 pm, Thursday, July 22, 2021, at First Christian Church in Carmi.  Funeral is 10 am, Friday, July 23, 2021, at First Christian Church in Carmi, and burial will be in White County Memorial Gardens in Carmi.

Memorials may be made to Springerton Christian Church or St. Louis Christian College and will be accepted at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi, who is in charge of arrangements.
