In spite of a Herculean offensive performance by one Lady Lion, the Edwards County Girls Basketball team fell to Fairfield Monday night.
Isabel Shepherd finished the evening with 28 points, including four makes from beyond the arc, in Linda Oxby Gymnasium Monday. That effort would not be enough to propel the hometown squad past the Lady Mules, however, as ECHS dropped the contest by a 51–40 decision.
Fairfield controlled the game in its early stages, leading 19–4 by the end of the opening stanza. Edwards County would dip into that deficit, but still found themselves behind 27–16 at the half.
The Lady Lion offense sputtered in the third quarter, allowing Fairfield to expand their advantage to 41–22 heading into the final period of play. The ECHS girls attempted a rally, but fell short in the 11-point defeat.
Tara Michels put up eight points to compliment Shepherd’s offensive outburst, while Libby Borowiak and Gracie LaFollette each managed three points on the night. Morgan Dardeen added two points to the Lady Lion cause, with Mollie Hedrick coming away with one.
