Funeral services were held last Friday for fallen DEA Agent and Grayville native Michael Gale Garbo, 51 of Tucson, Arizona. Garbo, the son of the late Larry and Carol Garbo of Grayville was killed in the line of duty Monday, October 4 during an incident at the Amtrak train station in downtown Tucson.
Garbo held the rank of Group Supervisor. He joined the DEA in 2005 and served for more than 16 years as a Special Agent and Group Supervisor combating criminal drug traffickers from the Nogales corridor to Kabul, Afghanistan. “Agent Garbo’s operational expertise, mentorship and leadership were legendary in the Tucson community,” said an official from DEA Headquarters in Washington, DC. “With unparalleled talent and courage, he carried out duties ranging from tactical instruction to serving as a member of the Phoenix Field Division Special Response Team. Across DEA, Group Supervisor Garbo was universally loved and respected for his leadership and for his unrelenting passion to protect the safety of the American people.
