Velda Ruth Balding, 82, of Olney

Velda Ruth Balding, 82, of Olney, died on Friday, March 6 at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney. Velda was born on Aug. 26, 1937 in St. Francisville, Ill., the daughter of Ernest Eldo and Edna Ruth (Knoblett) Pittman. She married Max D. Balding on Dec. 31, 1958 at the First United Methodist Church in Olney, and he survives.

Velda served on the election board and worked at several places, including Schmaulhausen Drug Store and General Telephone Co. She was also a daycare worker and a home day care worker and worked at the Olde Print Shoppe. Velda enjoyed sewing and needlework. She also took great pleasure in working in her flower gardens. Velda loved her family, and she will be missed by all who knew her.

Velda is survived by her husband, Max of Olney; daughter, Gloria Schnell and husband, Curtis of Olney; son, Gregory Max Balding of Olney; daughter, Peggy L. Runyon and husband, Jeffrey of Noble; son, Perry Balding and wife, Donna of Olney; son, Gerald Balding and wife, Danielle of Olney; brother, Ronnie Pittman and wife, Diane of Greencastle, Ind.; grandchildren, Ryan Runyon and his wife Kelsey, Rachel Runyon-Lortie and her husband Neil, Austin Runyon and his wife Brandi, Brooke Russell and her husband Ben, Darbye Balding, Lila Balding, Max Medford Balding, Gwendolyn, Olivia and Addison; and great-grandchildren, Case, Oliver, and Winifred.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Max, Delvin and Dwight Pittman; and granddaughter, Abigayle Laurel Balding.

Memorials can be made to Richland County Hope.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 14 at the Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney with a visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the Moravian Cemetery.
