A Lady Lion senior reached a milestone as the Edwards County Girls Basketball team routed Johnston City Friday night.

The Lions hosted the Black Diamond Conference opponent early Friday evening, blasting the Lady Indians in a 19-point victory. Edwards County took down Johnston City by a 43–24 margin.

It was early in the first quarter the ECHS senior Jenna Schnepper scored her 1,000th point, draining a three-point field goal from the deep corner over a trailing Indian defender with an arm raised vainly to attempt to impede Schnepper’s aim. Those three points were part of a 28-point night for Schnepper, who netted 14 of the Lions’ 19 first quarter points.

In the opening minutes, both offenses were slow to build momentum. By the end of the opening frame, however, Edwards County had built a commanding 19–5 advantage. Heading into the half, Johnston City had made little headway catching up to the hometown girls of ECHS, as the Lions led 25–13 heading into the locker room.

The Lady Lions put the game away in the third stanza, as Schnepper surged again with a 10-point quarter. The end of the period saw Edward County ahead 41–19. The Lions tapped the breaks in the fourth quarter, scoring only two points, but holding the Indian offense to a mere six points in that same span to close out the night.

Isabel Shepherd was another Lady Lion to reach double-digit scoring in the victory, accounting for 10 points on the night, including one triple. Mollie Hedrick and Tara Michels each recorded two points, while Morgan Dardeen and one in the win.
