Betty M. (Knight) Michels, 92, of Grayville

A funeral service celebrating the life of Betty M. (Knight) Michels, 92, life-long resident of Grayville, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19, at Ridge Baptist Church, located four miles west of Grayville. Visitation will be at the Church prior to the funeral service from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family respectfully requests that masks be worn and social distancing be observed.

Betty passed away on Sept. 15 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro. She was born November 28, 1927, to Royal T. and Mary (Landingham) Knight. She married Jerrad Michels on Oct. 19, 1945, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 1979. Also preceding her in death were son-in-law, Ray York; brothers, Ed Knight, Ronald Knight, Wayne Knight, Royal E. Knight and Vertis Knight; sisters, Wilma Woodrow and LaDonna Crackel; half-sister, Viola Hawkins and sister-in-law and best friend, Camilla Landingham.

Surviving her are her two daughters, Janis York and Lana (Stan) Coleman; grandchildren, Brooks (Anna) York, Brent (Katie) York, Stacia (Tony) Losh and Brad (Chelsea) Coleman; great-grandchildren, Cal York, Laney York, Boone York, Barrett York, Reagan Losh, Alex Losh, Jack Coleman, Bren Coleman, and soon-to-arrive, Samantha Coleman. Betty is also survived by honorary daughter, Margaret Hughes; her brothers, Loyal Knight, Bertis Knight, Garrel Knight; and her sister, Mary Vineta Jones. In addition, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and her beloved Ridge Church family.

Betty worked as a seamstress for Johnnye Manufacturing, retiring in 1989. In addition to sewing she loved quilting, crocheting, baking, and especially any activities associated with her church. She was a member of Ridge Baptist Church for over 85 years where she served the Lord as a Sunday School teacher, treasurer, clerk and fellowship director. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother,

“Gran-Gran” and “Gigi,” a wonderful sister, and a faithful follower of Jesus.
