Steve Hixon, 57, of Claremont

Steve Hixon, 57, of Claremont, died on Wednesday, March 11 at his residence. Steve was born on June 6, 1962 in Richland County, the son of Raymond and Barbara (Allen) Hixon.

Steve was a 1980 graduate of East Richland High School. After high school, he worked in the oil field with Rusk and Williams as well as farmed, before starting his seed cleaning business in 1993. Steve took great pride in owning his own business and cultivating relationships with farmers across the state.

He was a loving partner to Cheryl for 33 years, the perfect dad to Vanessa and best friend to his blue heeler, Mojo.

Steve was an avid bow hunter and loved spending time exploring the outdoors. After Vanessa moved to North Carolina he especially enjoyed hiking in Pisgah National Forest with his girls. He was passionate about conservation of the land and protecting the rights of farmers everywhere. He believed the best days were the ones that could be spent either outside with cold beer and live music, or on the back of a Harley.

Steve did not know a stranger and his laugh could be heard for miles. His generosity and genuine kindness will be deeply missed by many. His wishes were for no services and that his ashes to be scattered in a private location.

Steve is survived by his life partner, Cheryl Bourgeois; daughter, Vanessa Bourgeois-Hixon; brothers, James Hixon and wife Lynette of Robinson; Jerry Hixon and wife Gail of Claremont; Mike Hixon and wife Rebekkah of Willow Hill, Ill.; Tom Hixon and wife Kathy of Claremont; sister, Patty Inyart and husband Jeff of Claremont; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Laurie Beth Hixon and son-in-law, Jared Runyon.

In lieu of flowers and in the spirit of entrepreneurship, please make donations to the Richland County CEO Program-315 W. Main Street in Olney.

No services are planned at this time.
