Alvan “Max” Chapin, 92, of Albion

92-year old Albion resident, Alvan “Max” Chapin passed away Sunday evening, March 29 at his residence.

Max was born Nov. 13, 1927 in Shaws Point, Ill. He was born to Maynard and Alva Maxine (Fyffe) Chapin. He was first married to Norma Jean Frazier on Nov. 24, 1949 until her death on May 20, 1993. On Dec. 11, 2001 he was married to Ada Huff until her death on April 12, 2012. Max had worked for Rockett Supply Corp. as an over the road truck driver hauling propane until retiring in 1993. He was a proud World War II veteran of the United States Navy serving 14 months at sea. Max had served 10 years as an Albion Alderman in Ward #1 and was a member of the First Christian Church in Albion. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Mount Carmel Eagles, Albion Moose Lodge #621 and American Legion #590. Max was genuinely loved by many and respected by all.

Left to cherish many loving memories, are three daughters, Judith Jean (Dale Knackmus) Fleck, Candace Lynne (Wayne) Thacker, and Melody Ann (Ron) Hallam all of Albion; one step-son, Leon (Terri) Compton of Danville; Six grandchildren, Carla (Kyle) Bailey, Dustin Mann, Janet (Les) Slunaker, Misty (Kris) Robinson, Ronika (Cory) Gill and Kimberly St. Ledger; 15 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Preceding Max in death were his wives Norma Jean and Ada; his parents; one brother, Robert and two sisters, Virginia and Shirley.

Cremation has been afforded and graveside services for Max Chapin will be held at a later date at Graceland Cemetery in Albion with full military rites. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.nalesfuneralhome.com.
