John Head, 72, of Albion

72-year old Albion resident, John Head passed away Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 8 at Wabash Valley General Hospital Emergency Room in Mount Carmel. John was born Jul. 18, 1947 in Owensboro, Ky. He was the son of Virgil and Margaret (Fischer) Head. He married Katy Cravens on Jul. 14, 1990 in Albion and she survives. John was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in the Seabees during Vietnam. He worked for the Laborers Union 561 out of Evansville, Ind. for 49 years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 8222 and was a member of the American Legion in Mount Carmel.

John is survived by his wife, Katy; two sons, Jim (Molly) Head of Bremerton, Wash. and John (Gina) White of Evansville, Ind. and one daughter, April (Mattie) Ross of Mount Carmel. Three brothers, Mike Head of Winslow, Ind., Tony (Denise) Head of Velpen, Ind. and Virgil (Susan) Head of Jasper, Ind; four sisters, Margaret (Tim) Hardin of Pikeville, Ind., Ruth Crays, Linda (Larry) Werne and Virginia Brown of Ferdinand, Ind.; Nine grandchildren, Jessica, Alex, Anthony, Ella, Milo, Colin, Lia, Summitt and Saylor and several nieces and nephews also survive. John was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George and Paul; sister, Audrey and step-daughter Jenny Casburn.

Graveside services for John Head were held Monday, Jan. 13 at Graceland Cemetery in Albion with military rites provided by American Legion Post 590 and VFW Post 8222. A visitation was held prior at Nale’s Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and will be accepted at the funeral home.
